Liberated Carmen (Uta Leak) becomes an object of obsession for naive policeman Jose (Claus Ringer) in swinging 60s Spain. As Carmen unashamedly sleeps her way to the top in order to get what she wants, Jose’s jealousy leads to his undoing. Taking Prosper Mérimée’s classic novella CARMEN and updating it to the swinging ‘60s, Radley Metzger’s CARMEN, BABY is a fascinating (and rarely-screened) precursor to later classics like CAMILLE 2000 and THE LICKERISH QUARTET.
