FORMA/R/TS: Deakin Breathes Data

FORMA/R/TS: Deakin Breathes Data (DBD) by Julio Escudero reimagines how Wi-Fi data is monitored on a university campus by turning it into a physical, fabric-based artwork. The project uses data collected from the university’s Wi-Fi network to show how knowledge is shared across campus. Laser-cut silk represents how Wi-Fi signals move through space, mapping connections between buildings and changing based on where students are and how they move. This approach highlights both the visible and invisible “threads” that shape the university experience. The work explores the idea of the campus as a living organism that “breathes” data through student activity. It reflects how knowledge sharing can be both intentional and monitored. By combining materials, textiles, and digital techniques, the project weaves together themes of surveillance, learning, movement, and campus life into a tactile and visual form inspired by human motion.
