Born in Charlotte, NC to Puerto Rican and Cuban family roots, Kyle Colina has been based in New York City since 2011 and is active across the U.S. and Europe. He has performed with leading jazz artists including Kirk Lightsey, Bob Mover, Lee Konitz, Joe Cohn, Ken Peplowski, John Webber, Duane Eubanks, Philip Harper, James Zollar, Sacha Perry, Dwayne Clemons, Joe Chambers, Joey Cavaseno, William Ash, Stephen Riley, Grant Stewart, Philip Stewart, Pasquale Grasso, Anthony Wonsey, and Johnny O’Neal. His debut album as a leader — recorded in Paris features Kirk Lightsey and Steve Williams As a classical musician, Colina has appeared on five commercial recordings with the Chamber Orchestra of New York on the Naxos label, and is currently Principal Bassist of the New England Symphonic Ensemble, performing concert seasons at Carnegie Hall. He is also a longtime member of the AIMS Festival Opera Orchestra in Graz, Austria. Appearances at clubs such as Smalls Jazz Club, Birdland, Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall (Stern, Zankel, and Weill), Sunset Sunside in Paris, and venues in Barcelona. He has also performed in the pit orchestra of The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. A student of Ron Carter, Colina is the nephew of Grammy-winning producer and composer Michael Colina. He holds degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
