Strings of Asia: Huu Bac Quintet at The Red Pavilion

Huu Bac Quintet carries the sounds of two continents across a lifetime of music making - featuring Montreal-based Huu Bac Quach performing a wide array of musical instruments, including the Vietnamese đàn bầu (single string Vietnamese instrument), the Chinese erhu (Chinese fiddle), the quena (Peruvian flute), and jazz guitar. In concert, he presents his compositions which skillfully fuse the traditional sounds of his Vietnamese and Chinese heritages to North-American jazz music. This unique pairing delivers a true dialogue between Asian, North and South American cultures in a contemporary way. Huu Bac performs with his quintet, featuring Julian Wittich on bass, Carlin Lee on piano, Rintaro Mikami on drums, and Meg Okura on violin.
