The Gate

There’s nothing more Canadian than a horror movie about the evils of heavy metal. Glen (Stephen Dorff) and Louis (Terry Chandler) are 12-year-old outcasts who listen to metal band Sacrifix, hang out with a sheepdog named Angus, and discover a doorway to Hell in Glen’s backyard. Soon enough, an unstoppable supernatural tempest explodes in the form of zombies, stop-motion beastopoids, and neon-slime mutilations! Like THE MONSTER SQUAD and POLTERGEIST, this demon-encrusted deathcoaster was somehow marketed to pre-teen audiences despite the fact that it’s undeniably the most mentally abusive PG-13 film to ever hit the screen. In other words, THE GATE is easily Canada’s greatest contribution to humankind.
